How the Grinch Chose the Wrong Roof
– A poem by Spengler Industries
Every Who down in Whoville loved Christmas a lot,
But the Grinch, who lived north of their town, sure did not.
He grumbled and griped, and he hatched a sly plan,
To ruin their roofs, every Who-house and man.
He thought to himself, “What’s the weakest link here?
I’ll target their roofs; they’ll collapse by next year!
The snow will come down, the shingles will crack,
Their festive decor will all tumble back!”
So he sneaked to the rooftops one cold, wintry night,
With tools in his sack and mischief in sight.
But the very first roof that he tried to tear down,
Was a Spengler creation—he started to frown.
This roof wasn’t flimsy or poorly designed,
It was crafted with care, every detail aligned.
“No screws coming loose, no shingles to peel,
And these interlocked seams? Now that’s quite the deal!”
He climbed up the valley and onto the peak,
He pressed with his hands, but the roof didn’t creak.
“What is this sorcery? How can it be?
This roof is too perfect, too sturdy for me!”
He grabbed at the flashing, the gutters, the trim,
But everything fit—it was built to the brim.
“This zinc is too strong! This stainless won’t break!
Who made this roof? For goodness’ sake!”
Then the Grinch had a thought he’d not thought of before,
“What if good roofs make life better, not a chore?
What if strong homes give Whos peace of mind,
To enjoy every holiday, warm and aligned?”
And so, on that night, he put down his tools,
He realized his plan had been terribly cruel.
For a roof built by Spengler could handle it all,
From sleighs on the shingles to snowflakes that fall.
The Grinch turned around, with a grin ear to ear,
“I’ll leave these roofs standing, for year after year.
No rain, snow, or wind can knock these roofs down,
Not even a Grinch, from this snowy old town.”
And as he slid back to his cave with his sled,
He smiled at the thought of strong roofs overhead.
“If roofs were this good back in my day,
Maybe I wouldn’t have turned out this way!”
