Beautiful Options for Your Rustic Roof
It’s the “rusted roofing craze”. Everyone seems to be talking about it. In an effort to attain a rustic look, buildings are planned with steel roofs treated with copper sulfates or other chemicals to speed up the rusting process. Honest. One of our clients, an outstanding roofing professional with a degree in chemistry, shared with us part of a letter he wrote to a colleague on a project requesting this treatment. These are his words:
“…First of all I will not install a copper sulfate treated galvanized roof. Every metal roof expert in the country is going to tell you it is just wrong. A galvanized roof treated in such a manner (sanded with repeated copper sulfate treatment) might last ten years, tops. At that point the roofing contractor is probably going to be legally liable. I really do not want this legal time bomb in my camp. If the owners and architects are willing to sign a waiver of responsibility I might reconsider, (but probably not), as it would really hurt my pride too much. I cannot and will not recommend this type of roof to anyone. It is wrong from a chemical, environmental, moral and from a good building practices point of view. It is only right from a visual point of view…”
We have the ultimate solution!
Our aluminum and stainless steel interlocking shingles come painted with a special PVDF finish that mimics some of the chemical treatments called for in rustic architecture, just without the pesky side effects…like eating a hole through your roof!
The special Rustic Finish is made with the same ultra high-quality PVDF coatings as our standard and custom colors and has the same 40 year warranty against chalk and fade. All the finishes include warm, metallic copper-colored paint which adds just a bit of flash and a very sophisticated, very now, very cool result. And speaking of cool, our Rustic Finish shingles are considered “cool roofing” material. All of our paints have a special cool pigment mixed in which keep the solar reflectivity within the parameters of LEED requirements.
Though our Rustic Finish shingles have multiple appropriate and tasteful uses, our clients especially love them on log homes, lodges, mountain resorts, cottage-style homes and cabins. Remember. These finishes can be mixed and matched just like you can with solid colors, so let your imagination go wild. Take a look at the Rustic Finish options available:
