The Green Choice for Your Building

Our roofing and cladding systems are the best choice for environmentally conscious buildings. They are the greenest selections you can make.

Why Listen to Us?

Spengler Industries is staffed with the top minds in the metal roofing and metal architectural envelope industry. Our principals originally hail from Germany and hold advanced degrees in their field, including the Meisterbrief. They are among the most skilled, knowledgeable, and sought-after metal roof experts in the world. Though knowledge can, to an extent, be purchased, innovation and experience cannot. Our team has dedicated their careers to artistry and engineering, solving even the most difficult designs and situations permanently.

A Legacy of Sustainable Practices

We come from a heritage of sustainable practices. It is fair to claim that our background is decades ahead of the New World when it comes to effectively building with the welfare of the environment in mind. We are board-certified in restoration and reconstruction and have seen first-hand castles and cathedrals 800 years or more still roofed and cladded with the same metal that was originally applied. Still beautiful. Still maintenance-free. Still working. Permanence equates to sustainability. Our systems are based on these same time-honored techniques, updated for the needs of today’s buildings and customized for each project. So, while you can take our word that this is the most environmentally friendly system, see for yourself why nothing else even comes close in comparison.

What Do We Make?

We provide sustainable architectural metal systems and products for roofs and building envelopes, designed to make planning enjoyable and accessible for virtually any contractor. All the pieces interlock, eliminating the need for sealants or other harmful crutches. Our interlocking shingle system and double-locked standing seam system are our most popular options, but if it makes sense from an engineering perspective, we can build whatever you imagine. We make your designs come to life!

Environmentally Friendly Material Choices

You can plan on a huge selection of material choices: copper, patinated coppers, terne-coated stainless, a host of stainless steel options and finishes, a robust selection of zinc choices, titanium, and a spectrum of exotic alloys, to name a few. Metals are infinitely recyclable and safe for the environment. In fact, recycling scrap metal reduces greenhouse gas emissions and uses less energy than making metal from virgin ore. Most of our metals contain a significant amount of post-consumer material. The amount of energy saved using various recycled metals compared to virgin ore is up to:

  • 90 percent for copper
  • 56 percent for steel
  • 92 percent for aluminum

Metal recycling also conserves natural resources. Recycling one ton of steel conserves 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal, and 120 pounds of limestone. Recycling a ton of aluminum conserves up to 8 tons of bauxite ore and 14 megawatt hours of electricity. Unlike every other roof and cladding option, metals have an afterlife and will never end up in a landfill.

Energy Efficiency

Because architectural sheet metal is much thinner than other roofing options, it does not hold on to heat or cold as those less-efficient materials do. As such, buildings clad in metal tend to be much more energy efficient.

Painted Materials

Our aluminum and steel (Galvalume) materials are coated with the highest quality PVDF paints on the market. Our coatings companies are very sensitive to contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint. They use cool pigments in all their standard PVDF formulations, which help reduce energy consumption. In addition, all formulas are engineered to gain maximum practical volume solids to achieve even green technologies. Our coatings companies are doing their share by eliminating harmful raw materials from their formulas, such as lead chromate pigments. Ask us about custom colors with custom properties!

Building Green with Permanence

Building green means more than just using sustainable materials. Building green means building with permanence. We know that some LEED points can be added when a product is made within a specific distance from the building site. The rationale for this is that less fuel is expended in transportation, which in turn contributes to fewer carbon emissions. However, the spirit of the sentiment is good, what this does not account for is the permanence of the product being specified. Don’t succumb to the idea that everything labeled “green” is truly green. If a product isn’t lasting and maintenance-free, it isn’t green.

Construction fuel waste and pollution

Construction Fuel Waste and Pollution

Take into consideration the number of trips to and from the job site required by repair technicians. Consider the extra material that will need to be shipped back to the site. Consider the gas-guzzling construction machines and vehicles which will need to be utilized. Consider the caulk or other ineffective and environmentally polluting products that will probably be applied to fix the repair. Consider the environmental impact of the waste material. If it failed once, it will fail many times more.

Has the environment been helped by choosing a “green” material that consistently needs maintenance? Indeed, it might even have been adversely affected. We come from a legacy of permanence where efficient buildings—built once—last maintenance-free for hundreds and hundreds of years, and restoration projects are never continuously “restored.” We have the ability to help you achieve the same immutable result. You do not have a one-size-fits-all project. Let us help you devise the solutions you need to achieve the lasting outcome you require for your sustainable buildings.

Engineered Accessories for Enhanced Green Building

Because our systems are engineered, they accept engineered accessories that further enhance green building efforts. Snow is comprised of 98% air, which we know to be one of the greatest ways to insulate a building. Keeping snow on the roof, therefore, makes a great deal of sense. Our snow abatement systems are the best the world has to offer. Our solar panel holders are the same TÜV certified products as our snow guards and are similarly engineered. They go up easily and are the strongest systems on the market.

We can fabricate all manner of metal roof accessories available nowhere else. From radius gutters to seamless round valleys and any kind of technically tricky adornment, rimming, attachment, or component, we are your source for all engineered metal roofing and cladding accessories.

Versatility of Design and Application

The word “green” or the phrase “environmentally sustainable architecture” frequently conjures up an image of drab and uninteresting designs. As a designer, it might feel like your hands are tied; that you can’t use the “brushes and paints” you need to create your masterpiece.

Boring? Us? Never!

Our systems come in a myriad of sizes and angles. And there are countless ways system metals and finishes can be combined. If it makes sense from an engineering perspective, we’ll build anything your artistry can devise. And because the systems come from us, you know they’ll be appropriate for the application and will last. We are continually developing new, sophisticated, innovative products. We specialize in the difficult and artistic, but we have a system for everyone. Absolutely everyone can live a better lifestyle from the benefits our products offer. The Earth will be much greener because of our collaborative efforts.
