Interlocking Zinc Shingles
Zinc is a fine metal that has stood the test of time. It has a clean, contemporary look, but as you can see on this castle from the Classical period, (shown here sporting interlocking shingles by Spengler Industries) it has been used effectively for centuries in traditional building.
Zinc also affords a few color options. Each finish or color will weather and patina over time to a soft pewter color. Zinc colors and finishes can be combined as shown in this photo for a wide variety of personalized looks.
Our zinc shingles come in the following color choices:
Natural– shiny and smooth when it comes out of the mill. When installed on an exterior, natural zinc will weather and form a beautifully textured gray patina. The patina’s evolution can take several years based on the location of the panels.
Pre-weathered– Elegant. This finish is achieved by a factory process that mimics the matte patina that zinc naturally develops over time. It comes in Quartz and velvety looking Charcoal black which is protected by an organic coating that prevents damage during transport and installation. Over the decades, the black aspect will lighten to a very dark gray.
The colored zincs, very subtle hues of green, red and blue, are created by adding mineral pigments to a durable protective coating.
For roofing applications, zinc can last well over 50 years. For wall cladding applications zinc can last over a century. Zinc requires no scheduled maintenance.
